The French like their deserts just as much as they enjoy their dinner meals. Some of the more popular French deserts are Crêpes, Chocolate Mousse, Pastries, and Tarts. A crêpe is a type of very thin cooked pancake usually made from wheat flour. The word, like the pancake itself, is of French origin, deriving from the Latin crispa, meaning "curled".
Crêpe is made up of flour, eggs, milk, butter, and a small portion of salt. Mousse is a creamy dessert made from egg and cream, usually in combination with other flavors such as chocolate or pureed fruit. Pastry is made from ingredients such as flour, butter, shortening, baking powder or eggs. The pastry is rolled out thinly and used as a base for baked goods. Common pastry dishes include pies, tarts, and quiches. A tart is a pastry dish, usually sweet, that is a type of pie, with an open top that is not covered with pastry.
